Anything more than two instalments would have been a stretch. I feel like, while there may be more potential in the traveller world, we have managed to squeeze out all the character plots from our two main leads. I am quite content with the fact that this is a duology, and so it is the end of Etta’s and Nicholas’ adventure. I am happy to give it eight full stars, deservedly so, though if it wasn’t for the peculiar ending, the rating may have been higher. Wayfarer takes all the parts I loved about Passenger and dials them up, while diminishing at least some of my faults with the first instalment. With the cast now becoming fuller and more fleshed-out, we learn to appreciate and even – dare I say it? – love the wide ensemble of travellers and guardians we meet across time and space. In the case of Wayfarer, the romance however takes a much needed backseat, and we are finally able to enjoy the crazy ride. I enjoyed Passenger greatly, though I found much fault with the romance overtaking the plot. It rarely happens that a sequel to a book is deemed of higher quality than its predecessor. “That’s an animal with his priorities straight.”
